To answer your question let's look at what the Course says in regards to the purpose of this world. It says; "The real purpose of this world is to use it to correct your unbelief." Or you could say, to correct what you do not believe. And what is it you don't believe? That you are a child of God; that you are One with God; that you are perfect whole and complete without needing anything. So because you don't believe that to be true for you, you projected this world. Since this world is not real, it could not have been created for only creations are real. However you can project an illusion and convince yourself that the illusion is real.

So if a projection is not real, then what is it that substantiates an illusion? Nothing more than a belief, which is what the ego is, a belief in separation. So at the level of form you operate on beliefs (projections), while at the level of Spirit you operate on Truth (Reality). A belief projects, Spirit creates. Then the Course goes on to say: "You can never control the effects of fear yourself, because you made fear, and you believe in what you made." That's why we need the help of the Holy Spirit to assist us in making the correction from a split mind, which is what projects the world of separation, to right mindedness. And that we cannot do because the ego being a belief, it's the place from which the world we see is projected. So not only do we believe in what we see, that which we believe to be true is a projection from a deeper belief.

In essence, you could say that your conscious mind is run by an unconscious mind were your current beliefs reside. The challenge is that the unconscious itself is a projection from the belief that is making you believe that you have an unconscious mind. That's why you don't have access to that deeper part. You can change superficial beliefs at the unconscious level so they can be reflected in conscious awareness, but that is not going to help you because the one running the show is beneath the unconscious mind you think you have.

That's what the process of forgiveness is for. To forgive yourself for everything you have created, therefore allowing the Holy Spirit to heal that deeper part beneath your unconscious. Because if you continue changing one belief for another all you are doing is perpetuating the roller coaster you find yourself on. And remember that changing a negative belief for a positive one, as most teachers would suggest, is not going to help because all you are doing is exchanging one illusion for a seeming better one, therefore giving the ego more and more opportunities to create more pain in your life. However, once the ego has been undone through the process of forgiveness, instead of operating from beliefs, you are now operating from pure love. Then your life will miraculously change without you having to do anything.

Continuing with answering the question, the Course goes on to say; "In attitude, then though not in content, you resemble your Creator, Who has perfect faith in His creations because He created them." What this sentence is saying, is that you resemble God in the fact that you have perfect faith in your illusions, that even though they are not real, they seem real to you. That's why the next line from the Course says: "Beliefs produces the acceptance of existence. That is why you can believe what no one else thinks is true. It is true for you because it was made by you." Regarding to the sentence previous to that, God has perfect faith in His creations, which are based on content, you, on the other hand, have perfect faith in your illusions, which are based on thought (beliefs). So since that which you project has no content, it cannot be considered a creation, it is simply a belief. However, that which is created from your True Self has content, therefore it is Real. Moving along the lines with what I just shared, the Course also reminds me: "Because of your likeness to your Creator you are creative. No child of God can loose this ability because it is inherent in what he is, but he can use it inappropriately by projecting." And to be able to let go of your projections and to experience true creations is the goal of the Course.

To help me better illustrate what I just shared within the last few paragraphs let's use a movie theater as a metaphor. Imagine you are awake and you want to watch a 3-D movie. What you are creating is the going to the theater, entering the theater and then sitting on a chair ready to watch the movie. When the movie starts, what you are seeing in the movie screen are projections. If you get really into the movie, some scenes may seem so real to you to the point where you think you are a part of the movie. But you are not creating anything because you are simply sitting on your chair watching the movie. What you create is what takes place before the movie started and after the movie is over. Everything that is taking place while you are watching the movie, what your eyes are seeing, as real as it may seem, is just a projection.

Same with a dream, you can be sleeping having a dream, and all that you are seeing is projection after projection. You are not creating anything, even when the dream seems very real to you, and even when you think you are actually creating within the dream. Yet once you awaken from the dream, all your projections are gone. That's when you start creating in the world that you live in. So once you awaken from this illusion called the physical world, you then have the power to create because you are having the experience of being at home in God, where real creation occurs.
